Baby Steps

Optimism Thought of the Week

Baby Steps

Before we mastered the art of walking and running, we also mastered the art of falling down. As a baby perhaps we were so excited in moving along, taking those giant leaps, only to fall flat on the ground in defeat.  Of course our defeat didn’t stop us, because once again we attempted to walk until one day we took our first successful step, and we begin walking.

As an adult we will come across various steps that we must take, they cannot be made in single bounds, they require “baby steps.” We keep moving forward until we get it right, if we fall flat, we get back up, and we try again.

You’re The Brand

Optimism Thought of the Week

You’re The Brand

Every day is not going to go as perfect or as great as we may have planned. The advantage that we have on any given day, is the way we respond to it. We are the brand. What that clearly means is, that once we wake up and begin our day, and join society, we’re advertising ourselves. We’re telling the world this is the person I am, and this is why I am so intriguing.

You must believe in you the brand, or no one else will believe in your brand which is you. If you get knocked down, so have many other successful people that have risen once again. The brand will not be resurrected by no one else, but by you alone. – Glennel Hardy

Welcome Fear

Optimism Thought of the Week

Welcome Fear

Fear is something that we tend to steer away from each chance we get, but we know that it always lurks somewhere amongst us. Knowing this does it not get tiring steering away from it, or avoiding it? What if one day we did the ultimate, and welcomed fear in order to take the next step forward?

Fear has encouraged the strong to become stronger, and has continued to weaken the weak. It only resides on our own self-belief and our perception, and allows us to determine, how we will continue to proceed forward. – Glennel Hardy / Photo Courtesy of Evan Curtis

The Unknown

Optimism Thought of the Week

The Unknown

The unexpected, though may be frightening to some, can be encouraging to others depending on whom you ask, and the current environment and events. For example I could ask, what are your expectations for tomorrow? Will you base your expectations on tomorrow, on what is happening in your life today?

The unexpected can either be embraced or it can be feared. If you choose to embrace it, you’re opening yourself up for something new. This could mean, a new job, finding someone new in your life, or beginning a brand new chapter. If this is the type of change you are looking for, this is part of embracing the unexpected.  – Glennel Hardy

Silence

Optimism Thought of the Week

Silence

There is a beauty in silence. Have you ever walked along the beach, and there was nothing but silence that surrounded you, just you and the waves rushing against the shore? Silence is a valuable commodity, silence represents power, and resilience.

In a world where everyone has something to say, very few keep silent. Does the one whom remain silent, eventually becomes the most influential in the crowd?

Beyond Our Preset Limits

Optimism Thought of the Week

Beyond Our Preset Limits

If you ever taken a road trip I am sure you may have notice semi-trailers traveling alongside with you making their way down the highway.  For the safety of everyone on the road, the 18-wheelers are equipped with what are known as governors.  The purpose of the governor is to regulate or limit the speed of the vehicle.

At some point in life we as a society place governors within ourselves.  We determine what our limits will be, and how much effort we will extend to make things happen.  At one point in time we must determine what will help us in overriding the governor within us, in order for us to continue to be successful.

Harvest Planning

Optimism Thought of the Week

Harvest Planning

It’s true that farmer must plan ahead in order to reap the best harvest when the season comes forth, the same applies when planning for our own future.  It’s very important to stop and visualize, on what you want your harvest to look like.  The more you plan for your harvest now, the bigger your return can be later.

The farmer never hopes for an abundance of crops, he knows it will take place, he plants the seeds well in advance, and waits patiently for the season to come forth, and then the harvest begins to take place.

Standing Tall

Optimism Thought of the Week

Standing Tall

We were always told growing up to stand up straight, and how important it was to have great posture.  Standing tall however goes beyond posture, its facing adversity head on, it’s facing the winds of change, and it means to outlast the different seasons that come along the way.

When we plant ourselves and refuse to be moved, pushed, or wavered against the values that we have sworn to protect, that is when we have reached our true height of success.

Leap of Faith

Optimism Thought of the Week

Leap of Faith

The greatest success stories of all time, have come from those that at one moment in time, took a “leap of faith.”  Taking a true “leap of faith” is the action of moving against the naysayers, and believing in something greater than yourself.

It’s easy to be a part of the majority, but it’s much harder to stand with the minority, or at any given moment, when you must stand alone.  When the time comes along, “will you take that leap?”

Sharing Our Story

Optimism Thought of the Week

Sharing Our Story

If I were to ask who the best storytellers you ever heard are, who would you say? I would say some of the best stories ever told were by people that I most respected, either by friends or my mentors. The truth of the matter is each one of us have a story to tell. Events happen within our lives because it gives us something to share with others.

Our lives are full of never ending stories, events of greatness and disappointment, happiness and heartache, joy and suffering, but above all we manage to rise to the top once again. When we rise above our circumstances, and find our way once again, we must again share our story to others. What’s your story?

Fitted For The Moment

Optimism Thought of the Week

Fitted for the Moment

At any given time we’re called upon to go above and beyond that in which we have set our own expectations. The moment that we rise to the occasion and complete that which we thought we would never accomplish, a tremor rushes through our body.

We all at several points in our lives are “fitted for the moment.”  It’s the moment that the greatness that has been instilled within us comes forth, and wonderful things begin to happen.

Open Minded

Optimism Thought of the Week

Open Minded

How willing are we on any given day to be open to any opportunity that comes our way without hesitation? If we can take this a step further, we have more opportunities then we may think every single day. We act on those opportunities before us, whether to accept or decline them.

Are we open minded enough to take on something new, in order to gain something greater than we ever have experienced?

What Holds Us Together

Optimism Thought of the Week

What Holds Us Together

Across America there are thousands of bridges that motorists cross on a daily basis. Every nut and bolt of the bridge along with its arches plays an important part on the resilience of the structure. It will be safe to assume in order for the bridge to remain intact, routine maintenance must be performed.

If someone were to ask you today, what keeps you together, what would your response be? Like a bridge, over time we can only bear so much. Challenge yourself today to find the routine maintenance you need. Is it biking, or exercising, is it that evening run, or reading or writing that next great blog or novel? Routine maintenance is always a good thing.

No Regrets

Optimism Thought of the Week

No Regrets

Is there something today that you have set aside for a while that’s important for you to fulfill?  What exists within you that have not yet made itself known to others?  I have struggled with this for years.  Depending on the gifts and the talents that are given to each one of us, we as individuals have plenty to offer to society.

Time is a valuable resource, we’re not sure how much we have left, and we can’t make up for what we’ve lost, but we do have the moment before us.

Gaining Speed

Optimism Thought of the Week

Gaining Speed

You ever feel that you are not moving along at all, or that you are at a standstill and that nothing is happening at the moment.  Things are either motionless, or that everyone else is moving around you and you are not?  One way for us to determine movement, is for us to measure from a spot where we once stood.

To one watching this train approaching from a distance it appears it’s not moving very fast, only the engineer is aware on how quickly the engine is moving along.  Only the engineer is aware from where the train started and where it’s destined.  Though it may appear you’re not moving at any particular moment, if you continue to move forward you’re gaining speed.

Chapter One

Optimism Thought of the Week

Chapter One

If today we were to start fresh in the way we think and the way we see life, what would Chapter One look like for you?  We’re like a book, one chapter ends, and another chapter begins, while some chapters are longer than others.

To bring this into a much broader perspective, people view us as they would a book.  They learn from us, they observe us, and they take notes.  What would Chapter One look like for you?

A New Route

Optimism Thought of the Week

A New Route

Do you ever find yourself following the same routine every day in which, if your routine is interrupted in any kind of way it throws you completely off?  How willing are we to take a different path that doesn’t look as familiar?

I believe we miss out on opportunities not because they don’t exist for us, but because we don’t change our pathways of thought.

Proactive vs Reactive

Optimism Thought of the Week

Being Proactive Versus Reactive

Proactive is creating or controlling a situation by causing an outcome, rather than responding to it afterwards. On the other hand reactive is acting in response to a situation after it has occurred.

Have you ever found yourself constantly fighting fires, from the same person constantly reporting the fire. The art of preventing the fire is finding the root cause of it, and taking action to prevent it.

Being proactive is the key. By constantly putting out fires, it’s wasted energy, which if used effectively can be productive.

Determine who starts the fire, if by teaching them to be proactive doesn’t work, don’t respond to the fire. – Glennel Hardy

Endure

Optimism Thought of the Week

Endurance

I enjoy hiking and reaching the summit and take in the view that’s before me.  Reaching the summit takes will and endurance, as my asthma attempts to take hold of me.  I know where I am headed, but I get distracted as I get a shortness of breath, and as I climb higher altitudes.

To override my negative thoughts of not succeeding, I look up and I stay focused on the summit ahead. We begin to slow down and lose focus of the summit ahead of us, when we focus on nothing more than our current condition.

Balance the Load

Optimism Thought of the Week

Balance the Load

The greater we become in the things that we do, the more is expected of us.  Taking on a larger load may seem impossible as everything begins to pile up.  The load seems impossible if we do not take the opportunity to step back and re-evaluate.

It’s said that we are not given more than what we can handle. The way we balance the load determines our capability of managing the opportunities that come before us. – Glennel Hardy
