After the Fire

Optimism Thought of the Week

After the Fire

After a fire, whether it’s a forest fire, or a structural fire, we do our best to salvage what we can from the aftermath.  Although a fire can be a complete devastation, most of us can take something away from it of value.

In our lifetime we have been burned, it may had seem that we lost everything, but out of all the devastation, we’re able to save something from it.  We will get burned, fires will come, but whatever we can salvage from it, can help us rebuild once again.

Triple Track

Optimism Thought of the Week
Triple Track

We’re all destined in our journey in life to do great things, and to become that in which is far beyond our realm of thinking today. We may look around at those that have traveled the roads before, and wonder “how did they get there?”

We may get to the same destination, however, we may travel on a different track to get there. The journey that one takes is like a train ride, some pleasant, and some bumpy. Both trains arrive at the same destination at different times, but both will have different stories to tell.

The truth of the matter is, there is never a single track to get to a destination, there are always multiple tracks, to bypass the main track. We cannot be discouraged by one’s journey, and say we will never make that trip, we must create our own journey, and create the new track, in order to arrive at our destination.

Standing Tall

Optimism Thought of the Week

Standing Tall

We were always told growing up to stand up straight, and how important it was to have great posture.  Standing tall however goes beyond posture, its facing adversity head on, it’s facing the winds of change, and it means to outlast the different seasons that come along the way.

When we plant ourselves and refuse to be moved, pushed, or wavered against the values that we have sworn to protect, that is when we have reached our true height of success.

Sharing Our Story

Optimism Thought of the Week

Sharing Our Story

If I were to ask who the best storytellers you ever heard are, who would you say? I would say some of the best stories ever told were by people that I most respected, either by friends or my mentors. The truth of the matter is each one of us have a story to tell. Events happen within our lives because it gives us something to share with others.

Our lives are full of never ending stories, events of greatness and disappointment, happiness and heartache, joy and suffering, but above all we manage to rise to the top once again. When we rise above our circumstances, and find our way once again, we must again share our story to others. What’s your story?

Fitted For The Moment

Optimism Thought of the Week

Fitted for the Moment

At any given time we’re called upon to go above and beyond that in which we have set our own expectations. The moment that we rise to the occasion and complete that which we thought we would never accomplish, a tremor rushes through our body.

We all at several points in our lives are “fitted for the moment.”  It’s the moment that the greatness that has been instilled within us comes forth, and wonderful things begin to happen.

What Holds Us Together

Optimism Thought of the Week

What Holds Us Together

Across America there are thousands of bridges that motorists cross on a daily basis. Every nut and bolt of the bridge along with its arches plays an important part on the resilience of the structure. It will be safe to assume in order for the bridge to remain intact, routine maintenance must be performed.

If someone were to ask you today, what keeps you together, what would your response be? Like a bridge, over time we can only bear so much. Challenge yourself today to find the routine maintenance you need. Is it biking, or exercising, is it that evening run, or reading or writing that next great blog or novel? Routine maintenance is always a good thing.

Gaining Speed

Optimism Thought of the Week

Gaining Speed

You ever feel that you are not moving along at all, or that you are at a standstill and that nothing is happening at the moment.  Things are either motionless, or that everyone else is moving around you and you are not?  One way for us to determine movement, is for us to measure from a spot where we once stood.

To one watching this train approaching from a distance it appears it’s not moving very fast, only the engineer is aware on how quickly the engine is moving along.  Only the engineer is aware from where the train started and where it’s destined.  Though it may appear you’re not moving at any particular moment, if you continue to move forward you’re gaining speed.

Chapter One

Optimism Thought of the Week

Chapter One

If today we were to start fresh in the way we think and the way we see life, what would Chapter One look like for you?  We’re like a book, one chapter ends, and another chapter begins, while some chapters are longer than others.

To bring this into a much broader perspective, people view us as they would a book.  They learn from us, they observe us, and they take notes.  What would Chapter One look like for you?

Balance the Load

Optimism Thought of the Week

Balance the Load

The greater we become in the things that we do, the more is expected of us.  Taking on a larger load may seem impossible as everything begins to pile up.  The load seems impossible if we do not take the opportunity to step back and re-evaluate.

It’s said that we are not given more than what we can handle. The way we balance the load determines our capability of managing the opportunities that come before us. – Glennel Hardy

Talk Less and Listen More

Optimism Thought of the Week

Talk Less-Listen More

Can you recall the days of grammar school when your teacher told you to stop talking and pay attention?  This was me, constantly talking and never listening.  As adults we may find ourselves continuing to talk but never listening.

The benefits of listening is to be informed, and with that information becoming educated. Education should never run on short supply.  Being educated should be a demand, and never become a shortage. – Glennel Hardy

Our Drive

Optimism Thought of the Week

Our Drive

If someone were to ask what drives you, what would your response be?  When we think about drive, automatically we may think of moving forward.  Drive allows us to remove ourselves from our current circumstance, and challenges us to take notice on what may lie ahead of us.

For some when it comes to thinking about our future, we may dread thinking about it, due to our current circumstance.   We must ask ourselves, how long will we allow our current circumstance to determine where we travel to next? – Glennel Hardy

Our Core

Optimism Thought of the Week

Our Core

Have you ever had the opportunity to see a computer being built from the ground up? You get to witness it as nothing but a shell, until you begin to place each part inside, and several of these parts form together as the system.

All of us at some point started empty, and along the way life experiences and values brought us to the individuals we are today. When someone asks how you became the person you are today, it all leads back to our core. – Glennel Hardy

Patience

Optimism Thought of the Week

Patience

It’s correctly stated that patience is a virtue.  Patience forces us to pause, when we really want to accelerate. Patience comes with costs and sacrifice, but the rewards far exceed our own expectations.

Patience is similar to building blocks, the longer you allow it to build, the greater the outcome. – Glennel Hardy

Thinking Ahead

Optimism Thought of the Week

Thinking Ahead

At times we tend to get caught up on present things before us, and not seeing beyond where we currently stand.  I have learned over time, not to get caught up too much on the present, but to keep my eye on where I want to go in the future.  Thinking ahead for me, allows me to sustain my worst of days, because I am aware of what I want in my future.

I remember when I was a teenager I wanted to get a cd player.  CD players at that time, were nothing short of $300.00.  I remember before I even purchased the CD player, I purchased CD’s.  You may think that’s strange, but I was preparing myself for what I wanted in the future.  Eventually I did get that CD player, and I enjoyed my CD’s even more.

What have you already started, that’s in preparation for what you want in your future? – Glennel Hardy

Self Build vs. Self Destruct

Optimism Thought of the Week

Self-Build versus Self-Destruct

We each have a foundation.  Our foundation consists of our values, and the experiences we have faced.  What we build upon that foundation, is what causes us to self-build or either self-destruct.

If you ever taken notice of a skyscraper, it was completed floor by floor, it wasn’t completed overnight.  We are the skyscraper, we build one floor at a time until we reach the very top.  At the top you can always look down below to see how far you have come. – Glennel Hardy

Stronger and Wiser

Optimism Thought of the Week

Stronger and Wiser

We face challenges every single day.  A challenge to sometime get out of bed in the morning, a challenge to build something that looks impossible.  Without challenges we will have the same thoughts, the same output, which would produce just average results.

We look beyond average, during challenges we become more creative, and we become wiser, because that before us, we have never experienced.  Don’t fear to be challenged, but fear to remain average. – Glennel Hardy

Passing Through

Optimism Thought of the Week

Passing Through

There are those that believe that we have reached the final point, and those that believe that we are “passing through.”  The term “passing through” refers to a stop along the way, as we continue along our journey.

In our journey we will come across plenty of “passing through” stops, but it’s important to remember, that what occurs today, is not the final stop, it is part of the journey that gets us where we need to be. – Glennel Hardy

Working Within Our Base

Optimism Thought of the Week

Working within our Base

When was the last time you taken notice of the base that surrounds you?  Everyday along the way we have an opportunity to extend our base. Our base is our support system, it keeps us in balance, and focused on what is to come our way.

Our base consist of those that we trust, those that we look up to, and those that accepts us at face value.  Keep open minded, be friendly to others, for we never know the role they will play in our future. – Glennel Hardy

Patience

Optimism Thought of the Week

Patience

Patience is the building block of success.  I just recently graduated from college.  This required quite a bit of patience and hard work in order to successfully graduate.  I truly believe the best things that come in our lives, requires patience on our part before it begins to take root.

We plant the flower in the garden, and we allow it time to reach its full potential.  The full growth of the flower does not happen overnight.  The gardener waits patiently for the first green leaf to appear, and over a short period of time, the flower begins to blossom.  If we have a desire to strive towards greater things, our patience is an important ingredient to success. – Glennel Hardy

The Gift

Optimism Thought of the Week

The Gift

When I was six years old, I received a Bugs Bunny sleeping bag, along with a Bugs Bunny alarm clock.  I can recall these items so well, because it exceeded my expectations, because that is what I really wanted. I had no idea I was actually going to receive it.

Thinking upon this, reminds me that today is a gift.  Today is an opportunity to get it right, change what needs to be changed, and come out with a different perspective.  We may believe that tomorrow will come about, but for some tomorrow never arrives.  If you are able to see tomorrow, treat it as a gift. – Glennel Hardy
